Funhouse and Root Canal Kendama Trick
In this video, we are going to be learning the trick known as Funhouse, and we are also going to cover some of its variations including Root Canal. So the trick Funhouse looks like this:

As you can see, the tension of the string is allowing the two pieces of the kendama to hold. So you can actually dismount this in a bunch of different ways, including lighthouse, any of theĀ cups, spike. There is a lot of cool ways to do it.

To start this trick off, you are going to hold the kendama in a ken grip, with the small cup facing out. Make and L with your non dominant hand. You are going to take the tama and swing it underneath your thumb and over your index finger. Then, over the small cup of the ken, like this. Then what you are going do from here is you are going to take that L formation and use it to pinch the string above the tama. You want to make sure that you keep your non dominant hand close to the serato, because as you will see, when it is close, there is plenty of room for the ken to come down so the base cup sits on the tama. If it is too far apart and your are pinching really close to the tama, you will see that the base cup is a little bit harder to smoothly transition onto the tama. You want to find that sweet spot. Place the base cup on the tama. Let the string fall through the formation. Let go, and it will be tight together like this.

Now one of the variations you can do is known as Root Canal. This one can be done in either Ken or Sara grip, but we found it a little bit easier to learn this in Ken grip. So you are going to start off with the spike facing away from you. You want to make sure that the ken is parallel to the ground, or pointing up a little bit. If it is pointing down, you will see what when you swing it over, it falls off the spike really easily. Just make sure that the spike is at least flat. You are going to make an L formation and swing over the spike. At this point you are going to take your L formation and pull the string through the formation. You are actually going to spin the tama away from you while pointing the spike downwards so that the base cup is facing up. Then you are going to swing the tama towards you and land it on the base cup. Then you are going to make sure that you pinch the string. You are going to let go and the ken is going to swing upwards into a lighthouse position. You are actually going to grab the tama and land the trick in lighthouse.

Another cool variation you can do is in sara grip. You are going to swing the string over the big cup this time. As you are swinging it over, you are going to pull the string through, land it on the base cup again, which then allows you to pinch and smoothly transition into lighthouse. That is Funhouse and all of its variations.

There are no kendama tricks you need to know before learning this trick with your kendama.
