Learn all the fundamentals of 5a style play. 5a, or freehand style yoyoing, is done with a counterweight attached to the end of the string, instead of having the string attached to your hand. This allows skilled players to move the counterweight and the yoyo separately for unique and exciting yoyo tricks.

Once you have mastered the techniques in these 5a fundamentals videos you will have the tools to learn any 5a trick.

To teach these tricks we are using the Duncan Freehand Pro. This is an excellent and inexpensive 5a yoyo that is great for the full range of 5a tricks. If you would like to take your skills to the next level, we also recommend the Canon yoyo designed by 5a world champion Jake Elliott. The Canon also includes the Delrin Ultraweight, a counterweight machined to perfection with a ball bearing to remove string tension.
