Stilt Kendama Trick
In this video, we’re going to be teaching you the kendama trick known as Stilt. It looks like this.

Now, in order to do this trick you want to make sure you have really learned Lunar and Airplane. If you don’t have those little intricacies mastered you really want to check those videos out because those are going to be vital to learning how to do this trick.

When we learned Lunar, we learned to hold the tama with the hole facing towards you. You don’t want to do that on this one. We actually want the hole facing away from us, and you can see my index finger is very close to the lining of the hole. This allows my thumb to be further down because when you are landing the Stilt you want it to balance on the spike, and you can see there is plenty of room for the spike to hang down and balance the weight on the tama. That way my thumb is not getting in the way, and you can see my index finger still isn’t interfering because the big cup not protruding away from the hole.

We’re going to start it off just like we learned in Airplane and Lunar, with the small cup facing upwards and the string on the inside of our body. We’re going to swing it just like Lunar and give a small twist. But, instead of giving it the standard tug when the big cup is facing towards the ground, we’re actually going to give it a little bit more of a tug so that the edge, the top of the big cup is in the hole of the tama rather than the face.

When it’s balanced it will look like this with the spike balanced against the side of the tama. Both of your fingers should be out of the way, not touching the ken at all. This gives it that perfect balancing point, and since the ken is already vertical your spike is facing downwards, all you need to do to finish the trick is bend your knees to pop the ken upwards and pull the tama in so the spike lands right in the hole.

That is how you Stilt.
