YoYoTricks.com Atlas Yoyo Review

The Atlas Yoyo, being 25% wider than the majority of yoyos made today, unites characteristics that typically do not coexist in one yoyo, making it great for both new and experienced players alike. For new players the extra width helps make learning basic string tricks and mounts easier. For experienced players it plays light and fast, while its width gives it a surprising amount of stability, making it ideal for competitive play. In fact, in 2015, Jake Elliott used the Atlas to win the World Yoyo Contest defeating 6 time world champion and yoyo legend Takeshi Matsuura. Watch the video of his winning routine above.

The Atlas Yoyo defies expectations. When we first saw the Atlas, we expected it to play slow on account of its size. This is not the case. Surprisingly, we found the Atlas to be one of the fastest and most nimble yoyos we have ever offered. However, unlike many yoyos that play light and fast, the Atlas Yoyo stays on plane even at incredibly low spin power, and resists tilt better than most yoyos available today. The gap width is also finely tuned to ensure that it also comes back to your hand with a snappy bind.

The shape of the Atlas Yoyo also lends itself to 5a style play. The U shaped curve near its center perfectly cradles your thumb and makes catching the yoyo comfortable and easy. Combined with its other features, it is no wonder the Atlas was used to win the 5A world title.

As if all this were not enough, the inner cup of the yoyo also features a small dimple designed to make finger spins easier. The angled slopes of the inner cup direct your finger into the dimple, enabling incredibly long horizontal finger-spin tricks. The Atlas is also great for other grind tricks, particularly finger grinds. Its width makes it easy to catch and helps grinds last an extremely long time.

Even if the only notable characteristic of the Atlas Yoyo was its extreme width, this would be a great yoyo to add to any player’s collection. The Atlas, however, is not content to be a simple outlier. It uses its width to achieve what other yoyos cannot – an unexpected combination of speed, control, and stability – advantages that will benefit players at any level of skill.

The Atlas Yoyo includes the Ultraweight, to closely match Jake Elliott’s winning set up.

Manufacturer's Description of The Atlas Yoyo

YoYoFactory is well known for designing yoyos that you think would not work, but end up being the one of the most enjoyable throws you will ever come to know. YoYoFactory had designed wide yoyos in the past to offer a new experience, but the Atlas was a special project in order to make the best wide yoyo for competitions. There are many benefits to having a wide yoyo for contests, the most obvious being the large area to catch the string, making impossible whip catches an easy reality. Designed with performance in mind, YoYoFactory took the Atlas to the next level with an improved bevel design in the hub of the yoyo to make it the best possible yoyo for finger spins.

The pioneers used an Atlas to guide themselves to a new world, and YoYoFactory brings you the Atlas to guide you through the future.
