Kendama Nunchucks Kendama Trick Core
Learn the kendama trick known as Nunchuck and its variations.
Kendama Nunchucks Kendama TrickIn this video, we are going to be learning the trick known as Nunchuck, and we are also going to cover four of its variations. So, Nunchuck looks like this:
Now, in order to perform this trick, you want to make sure that you are holding the tama. The ken will be hanging freely. The first step is to swing the ken outwards and over your dominant shoulder. The most important part here, which will make every variation of nunchuck and nunchuck easiest is, when it is coming around, you want to bend your knees and when it reaches the low point, you are going to bend your knees up as you let go of the tama. You are also going to slightly pull the tama up. What this does, is it stalls the whole formation in air, which gives you enough time to switch grips. It also kind of resets the tricks to be in a basic swing trick. So, once that comes around, you drop and you will switch into catching the ken. As you see, with my knees bent, I am in a basic swing position. So I will swing the tama straight up onto the base cup. That is the basic variation.
The first variation we are going to do is swing downspike. If you have not seen that video, make sure you check that out. You are going to start off with a basic nunchuck with the tama in grip. It is going to come around, and you are going to switch. As you see, I am in position for a swing. So I am going to swing and downspike.
Now, these other variations are going to be doing nunchuck in the ken grip. The most important part here is to make sure that the string is on the inside of your body. It has to stay on the inside of your body for the entire rotation because this will allow you to set up for the swing trick. As you see, the big cup is facing me as the tama comes around. So what you want to do is have a really light grip on the bottom of the base cup so you can swing the ken really easily. You can see the string is on the inside the whole time. So this first one is going to be Airplane. We are going to toss it up, grab the tama, and you will see I am in a regular airplane stance. So I will just simply pull up and land it into an Airplane. The second variation for this will be the 1 Up lighthouse. So if you have not seen that video, make sure you go check that out. You are going to start in the ken grip nunchuck, swing the tama over, pop, 1 up, onto the tama, and you can drop in from there. The third variation is going to be a 1 up lunar. So again, you are going to start in the ken grip nunchuck, swing the tama over, grab it, rotate, and it is going to land in lunar. And those are Nunchuck and its variations.
