YoYoTricks.com Flying Camel Yoyo Review

The Flying Camel is the most iconic (and delightfully unusual) edition of Tom Kuhn’s No Jive 3 in 1 yoyo. The 3 in 1 name is derived from the fact that the halves of the yoyo can be turned inside out, taking it from a wide (“butterfly”) style design to a thinner looping design (or half and half). This, along with its replaceable wooden axle, make the Flying Camel absolutely unparalleled in wood yoyo design, great for string tricks and looping tricks.

3-in-1 Flying Camel YoyoThese features also make the Flying Camel the ultimate conversation piece. Not only is the name Flying Camel worth musing over for hours on end, its No Jive pedigree represents the first ever take apart yoyo in history, not to mention the fact that it is reversible. Getting this yoyo is like getting a piece of yoyo history, a complete story in one throw.

In terms of play, when the Flying Camel is in its wide form it plays great on the string and is consistently responsive. While it will not sleep nearly as long as ball bearing yoyos, it plays very smooth and is more than capable of performing a variety of difficult tricks. In addition, its balanced weight makes it one of the best yoyos available for practicing Shoot the Moon. When turned into its looping form it offers that supreme feel that only wood can. Its shape and weight are perfect for anyone learning to loop, or who likes to practice a little more casually. (We recommend only using 100% Cotton Yoyo String for the Flying Camel Yoyo.)

This yoyo is for anyone who likes things that are interesting and a bit unusual, who likes the feel or challenge of wood, or would like to own a piece of yoyo history. This yoyo has not been made since 1998, and who knows when it will come around again. There’s nothing else like the Flying Camel.

Manufacturer's Description of The Flying Camel Yoyo

Patented in 1976, the Tom Kuhn No Jive was the world’s very first take-apart yo-yo. It sports a replaceable wooden axle and has been featured in publications worldwide including OMNI, Science Digest, Sports Illustrated and Reader’s Digest, amongst others.

The Flying Camel is a beautifully made yo-yo with a unique character. The wide-gap shape will help newer players by making string tricks easier, and it is also superbly balanced for completing tricks such as the famousĀ Shoot the Moon. As your skills improve, you’ll find yourself reaching for the Flying Camel again and again.
